Together with students at London College of Fashion Joanna created The Empty Hanger project; a multi-media workshop that uses ancient scriptures and cutting edge design processes to explore issues of identity, sustainability, dignity, hope, and belonging.
The Bible Society partnered with Joanna and The Empty Hanger team to produce the workshop for schools and youth groups. The workshop has been popular with teachers and facilitators looking for creative ways to approach religious concepts, scriptural interpretation and story-telling with young people. The project was featured in UK national press and on Al Jazeera television.
Together with an international team of designers, Joanna and Jennifer Sturrock ran The Empty Hanger as a summer school in partnership with The Three Faiths Forum.
They have since run it as interfaith summer schools at London College of Fashion with young women from Islamic, Sikh, Jewish and Christian faiths.
